Digital YATAI (D-Shop)

Digital YATAI (D-Shop)

The Company’s products are built using a unique production system called Digital YATAI, or D-Shop. With D-Shop, products are assembled via a “one-man/one-machine cell” production system.  In contrast to a conventional assembly line, where multiple workers each contribute parts, an assembly staff using D-Shop builds a full unit, from start to finish, on their own. A computer display shows the worker a 3D graphic manual, and the rotating rack that holds parts automatically delivers the parts needed for each stage of assembly. The manual guides the worker step-by-step as he/she uses computer-linked electric screwdrivers to assemble the product. The guide and rotating rack are programmed to operate together so that the worker never receives incorrect parts or tools for the job at hand. Also, the entire process is monitored to ensure product quality. Digital technology is utilized to assist the workers’ memory and attentiveness to achieve the highest in quality and productivity.
A single D-Shop can perform all the functions necessary for production, so its key strength lies in its flexibility toward any changes that may be required. D-Shop is also employed at the Thailand factory, which began operations in 2012, and has enabled them to achieve a level of quality equal to that of products made in Japan.

Manufacturing System for General Medical Devices

For manufacturing and marketing the DWX series, Roland DG has obtained the licenses for Medical Devices Marketing Authorization Holder and Medical Device Manufacturer pursuant to Pharmaceutical Affairs Law (PAL), which regulates the manufacturing, importation, and sale of drugs and medical devices in Japan (Medical Device Marketing Notification Number of DWX-50: 22B3X10006000020).
The DWX series is produced in a dedicated manufacturing space for medical devices, which is separated from the assembly area of the other products, such as printers and general milling machines, which are not for medical use. At the entrance of the medical device manufacturing area, a hand wash sink and a space to change uniforms have been provided for sanitary control. The DWX series is built using specific Digital YATAI units which are certified to manufacture medical devices. Also, along with the DWX-dedicated YATAI, Roland DG developed “special YATAI” units equipped with electrical safety testing devices to undertake tests required when manufacturing medical devices.
Through this sanitized, safe, and efficient manufacturing system, Roland DG has produced the precision DWX series in accordance with PAL, regarded as one of the most stringent medical-related laws in the world
